Three-dimensional imaging technology has been making gradual inroads in the world of orthodontics. Traditionally, orthodontists put one-size-fits-all brackets and wires on crooked teeth and then modify the setup by hand at subsequent appointments. It’s a technique that involves a surprising amount of guesswork. This trial and error approach can mean months and months additional brace wear to even get the teeth to a reasonable alignment. At White Orthodontics, we have incorporated 3-D modeling and robotics to give our patients more precise treatment than ever before.
iCAT Digital Imaging: The iCAT scanner produces high resolution digital images and detailed 3-D views of the jaws and teeth which are far superior to traditional 2-D images. Dr. White is the first and only orthodontist in the Richmond area to incorporate this incredible technology into his practice.
Fast, Accurate Imaging
The iCAT CT scanner provides immediate 3D images of patients mouth, including the jaw bones, teeth and facial structure. These images enable us to provide thorough and effective orthodontic care. The iCAT scan is performed in an open environment allowing the patients to sit upright and in a comfortable position. The entire scan takes as few as nine seconds and exposes patients to dramatically lower radiation compared to conventional CT scans.
SureSmile: The amazing SureSmile technology uses 3-D digital modeling in conjunction with computerized robotics to produce customized archwires that result in more accurate treatment that is 30-40% faster than with conventional orthodontics. At White Orthodontics, we have combined the incredible accuracy of the iCAT 3-D imaging with the amazing precision of SureSmile customized archwires that virtually eliminates the guess work involved in traditional orthodontics. Indirect Bonding: When it comes to placing braces on your teeth, nobody does it faster, more accurately or more comfortably than Dr. White. We utilize a laboratory process to custom-fit your braces which means we can place an entire set of braces in your mouth in about 30 minutes and with incredible precision. Self-Ligating Braces: We are proud to use one of the most significant accomplishments in orthodontic technology….the self-ligating bracket. Unlike ordinary braces where the archwire is held in place with a metal or elastic tie, self-ligating braces have a sliding door which is opened to remove the archwire and closed once the wire is replaced. This innovative technology results in shorter, faster appointments and a reduction in orthodontic treatment time. Our practice utilizes a second generation self-ligating bracket (Innovation) which replaces the sliding door with an interactive clip, providing optimal force for maximum comfort and control.
High Tech Low Force Wires: We utilize BioForce® super-elastic, nickel titanium archwires to apply force to the teeth once the braces are placed. These wires can provide continuous force over a longer period of time because they are “activated” by the patient’s body heat, enabling us to see our patients at 6-14 week intervals instead of every 3-6 weeks as with traditional orthodontics. BioForce® wires also have a special coating which reduces friction resulting in faster, more comfortable tooth movement.
