Self-ligating Braces for Low Friction, Rapid Tooth Movement
All braces are not the same! Recent advances have resulted in one of the most significant accomplishments in orthodontic technology….the self-ligating bracket. With ordinary braces, the archwire is held in place with a metal or elastic tie. These ties must be clipped and re-applied each time an archwire is changed. Self-ligating brackets have a sliding door which is opened to remove the archwire and closed once the wire is replaced. Self-ligating braces mean shorter, faster appointments and since there is much less friction than with traditional braces, more rapid tooth movement occurs which can shorten orthodontic treatment. Our practice utilizes a second generation self-ligating bracket ( Innovation) which replaces the sliding door with an interactive clip. This flexible clip analyzes pressure from the archwire to determine the optimal force needed for maximum comfort and control. Innovation brackets provide outstanding results with fewer appointments, shorter treatment time and better patient comfort.
